DynDNS on DrayTek Vigor: step-by-step setup

DrayTek Vigor routers offer a freely configurable DDNS client for any DynDNS2 provider via the "User-Defined" option. With DNS Beacon your network stays reachable under a permanent hostname even when your WAN IP changes. Here's how to set it up.

Step by step

  1. Open the admin interface of your DrayTek Vigor and go to Applications → Dynamic DNS Setup.
  2. Enter the values below. Your username is your account email, your password is an API key from the dashboard.
  3. Save the settings. Your hostname now updates automatically whenever your IP changes — usually within a minute.

Applications → Dynamic DNS Setup

Service Provider:
User-Defined
Provider Host:
api.dnsbeacon.com
Service API:
/nic/update?hostname=myhouse.dnsfollowme.uk&myip=###IP###
Domain Name:
myhouse.dnsfollowme.uk
Login Account:
your email address
Password:
your API key

Pick "User-Defined" as the Service Provider. DrayTek substitutes ###IP### with the current WAN IP automatically; the Login Account and Password are sent as HTTP basic auth to /nic/update. Set "Determine Real WAN IP" to "WAN IP" if the router is connected directly to the internet.
